What Is Satire
Satire is a text or performance that uses irony, derision, or wit to expose or attack human vice, foolishness, or stupidity. Verb: satirize. Adjective: satiric or satirical. A person who employs satire is a satirist. Using metaphors, novelist Peter De Vries explained the difference between satire and humor: The satirist shoots to kill while the humorist brings his prey back aliveââ¬âoften to release him again for another chance.à à One of the best known satirical works in English is Jonathan Swifts Gullivers Travels (1726). Contemporary vehicles for satire in the U.S. include The Daily Show, South Park, The Onion, andà Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. Observations Satire is a weapon, and it can be quite cruel. It has historically been the weapon of powerless people aimed at the powerful. When you use satire against powerless people, . . . it is not only cruel, its profoundly vulgar. It is like kicking a cripple. (Molly Ivins, Lyin Bully. Mother Jones, May/June 1995)Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybodys face but their own, which is the chief reason for that kind of reception it meets in the world, and that so very few are offended with it. (Jonathan Swift, preface to The Battle of the Books, 1704)[S]atire is tragedy plus time. You give it enough time, the public, the reviewers will allow you to satirize it. (Lenny Bruce, The Essential Lenny Bruce, ed. by John Cohen, 1967) Twain on Satire A man canââ¬â¢t write successful satire except he be in a calm judicial good-humor; whereas I hate travel, and I hate hotels, and I hate the old masters. In truth I donââ¬â¢t ever seem to be in a good enough humor with anything to satirize it; no, I want to stand up before it curse it, foam at the mouth--or take a club pound it to rags pulp. (Mark Twain, letter to William Dean Howells, 1879) Housebroken Aggression While it may seem reckless to assert that satire is universal, there is much evidence of the extremely widespread existence of various forms of housebroken, usually verbal, aggression.Satire in its various guides seems to be one way in which aggression is domesticated, a potentially divisive and chaotic impulse turned into a useful and artistic expression. (George Austin Test, Satire: Spirit and Art. University Press of Florida, 1991)[A]busive satire is a wit contest, a kind of game in which the participants do their worst for the pleasure of themselves and their spectators... If the exchange of insults is serious on one side, playful on the other, the satiric element is reduced. (Dustin H. Griffin, Satire: A Critical Reintroduction. University Press of Kentucky, 1994) Satire in The Daily Show It is this blend of satire and political nonfiction [in The Daily Show] that enables and articulates an incisive critique of the inadequacies of contemporary political discourse. The show then becomes a focal point for existing dissatisfaction with the political sphere and its media coverage, while Jon Stewart*, as high-profile host, becomes a viewer surrogate, able to express that dissatisfaction through his comedic transformation of the real. (Amber Day, And Now . . . the News? Mimesis and the Real in The Daily Show. Satire TV: Politics and Comedy in the Post-Network Era, ed. by Jonathan Gray, Jeffrey P. Jones, Ethan Thompson. NYU Press, 2009)à In September 2015,à Trevor Noah replaced Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show. The Rhetoric of Satire As ââ¬â¹aà rhetorical performance, satire is designed to win the admiration and applause of a reading audience not for the ardor or acuteness of its moral concern but for the brilliant wit and force of the satirist as aà rhetorician. Traditionally, satire is thought of as persuasive rhetoric. But [literary theorist Northrop] Frye, noting that rhetoric is not devoted solely to persuasion, distinguishes between ornamental speech and persuasive speech. Ornamental rhetoric acts on its hearers statically,à leading them to admire its own beauty or wit; persuasive rhetoric tries to lead them kinetically toward a course of action. One articulates emotion, the other manipulates it (Anatomy of Criticism, p. 245). More often than we have acknowledged, satire makes use of ornamental rhetoric...I do not mean to suggest that after the first century epideictic rhetoric served only as entertainment, or that in making use of epideictic rhetoric satirists do not seek to bring discredit on the ir subject (the enemy). . . . I am arguing that satirists implicitly (and sometimes explicitly) ask that we observe and appreciate their skill. It is to be suspected too that satirists judge themselves by such a standard. Anybody can call names, but it requires skill to make a malefactor die sweetly. (Dustin H. Griffin, Satire: A Critical Reintroduction. University Press of Kentucky, 1994) The Stranger That Lives in the Basement The general attitude toward satire is comparable to that of members of a family toward a slightly disreputable relative, who though popular with the children makes some of the adults a bit uncomfortable (cf. the critical evaluation of Gullivers Travels). Shunning is out of the question as is full acceptance...Unruly, wayward, frolicsome, critical, parasitic, at times perverse, malicious, cynical, scornful, unstable--it is at once pervasive yet recalcitrant, base yet impenetrable. Satire is the stranger that lives in the basement. (George Austin Test, Satire: Spirit and Art. University Press of Florida, 1991)

A Life Of Spirituality Overcoming A Life of Materialistic...
A Life Of Spirituality Overcoming A Life of Materialistic Riches In this world, there are two sorts of people, some who find fulfillment in their lives through spirituality, and those who find fulfillment in their lives through material possessions, such as money or power. It is reasonably shown in ââ¬Å"Singing Silenceâ⬠that spiritual wealth is far superior to material wealth because a life which is filled with spiritual means is much more enjoyable and successful than a life filled with material wealth. ââ¬Å"Singing Silenceâ⬠by Eva Lis Waurio values the experiences in life, and how important the journey itself is, itââ¬â¢s not essentially the material possessions you collect that make the journey what itâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Optimism plays a great deal in the experiences one can have in life. If optimism is a big part of living, then any person can accomplish lots, because they have a drive and determination to do things, and they can find the best possible outcome of even a really bad situation. Vincente was a huge optimist. He knew that he wouldnââ¬â¢t be able to pay the man back his money, but he knew there had to be another way he could pay him back. ââ¬Å"Vincente knew that he would never have the money to buy the amphora, but what was to prevent him from finding one?â⬠Vincente was very optimistic in that he knew he would find an amphora to repay the man with. Something that may have also impacted Vincenteââ¬â¢s load of optimism was the fact that he thought the American had given him the right address, so this gave him the hope that he would one day find the amphora and return it to the man. ââ¬Å"I believed that somehow in his dreams, Vincente saw himself at last arriving in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, with the ancient Phoenician amphora under his arm.â⬠This shows that Vincente had a great deal of spiritual wealth because his life was based on finding something that wasnââ¬â¢t even for himself, but he was still happy doing this. A look at various factors taken into account before companies decide which corporate investment program to follow. Corporate investing programs allow firms to maximize their profits by utilizing excess cash reserves and strategically investing in vehicles with potential for high returns while incurring the lowest possible risk. This paper discusses such programs, as well as the concept of beta, which is a method for calculating the risk of an investment and how beta can be calculated. The most prevalent form of corporate investing is when larger companies invest in smaller companies with huge potential. Passive investment funds also exist, as an alternative or complimentary investment option. AriostoS Orlando Furioso Essays - Matter Of France, Astolfo
AriostoS Orlando Furioso Even in the classics, an author must have something outrageous to keep his readers attention. Ariosto, in his Orlando Furioso, does so with winged horses and curses placed upon high ranking officials. The main character in cantos 33-35 is Astolfo, and he starts his journey by riding upon a hippogryph. A hippogryph, in mythology, is a flying animal having the wings, claws, and head of a griffin and the body and hindquarters of a horse. Astolfo rides this winged horse for quite awhile, journey through many different lands. During this time, the hippogryph has control over where Astolfo goes, and they end at Ethiopia. In Ethiopia, it is said that fire is used in baptism (canto 33: 102) which proves the Emperor Senapos influence. The land is covered in gold, and everything Astolfo would use iron for was gold. There were gems and precious jewels everywhere, and the lines describe how the Emperor of Ethiopia has absolute power over even the Sultan of Egypt, because the Emperor controls the flow of the Nile. There was never an Emperor more powerful or rich, but Senapo was afflicted with lost eyesight and a horrible curse that wouldnt allow him to eat any meal in peace. These hardships occurred when Senapo was a young man and very arrogant. He decided to battle against God Himself, and climbed the very mountain that the fabled Adam and Eve lived upon. God became very angry with Senapo, and blinded him and opened the gate of hell to little harpy demons that would come and eat any food placed before him. A prophecy told that Senapo would have these afflictions until a man upon a winged horse came flying in to save him, and when Astolfo flew in on his hippogryph, the Emperor thought he at last would be saved. Emperor Senapo invites Astolfo to his dinner table, but the demons still come and eat all the food. Astolfo drew his sword and tried to kill the harpies, but it was no use. They were brought from hell and therefore could not be killed by conventional means. Eventually, Astolfo follows the harpies with his magical horn and finds the tree that leads to hell, goes down a flight of stairs, talks to a woman who is in eternal damnation, follows the steps back up, and seals the entrance. After trapping the harpy demons back into the hell from whence they came, Astolfo flies up to the peak of a mountain and meets a clergyman. The clergyman tells him that Orlandos mind is lost and can only be found on the moon. They travel to the moon, find Orlandos wits in a jar labeled The wits of Orlando and return the wits to their owner. The plot itself ends here, and the rest of canto 34 and 35 are about Ariostos views of humanity and poetry. He uses the lost and found place on the moon to tell the readers that folly, or foolishness, is never lost, and is always found on Earth. Ariosto goes on to say that poetry is Gods gift to men, and any lord that denies the beauty of poetry and turns a genuine poet away risks being forgotten forever. If one is a lord and wants to be remembered for the good deeds he did during his life, he ought to have a sincere and talented poet in his house and included in his staff. Otherwise, he will go to hell and be forgotten forever. This story is basically for entertainment purposes, although it has sentimental meaning to the author. He wrote this is response to another mans writing where Orlando is also the man character and included in the title. Ariostos Orlando Furioso is considered a classic piece of literature, and even Shakespeare has read this work. This story was interesting in that it explored aspects of humanity and the arts while keeping the plot alight with mythical images and intense characters. Book Reports

How to Write a Communications Term Paper A Complete Guide
How to Write a Communications Term Paper A Complete Guide When assigned a communications term paper to write you are given an entire term to work out your topic, do research, find the necessary information and put the results in writing. It may seem like you have a lot of time to do it ââ¬â but it is plenty of work as well. The writing alone is likely to take a lot of time (term papers are often 6000 words long, sometimes longer). A communications term paper should present a sufficient amount of original research, which means that you cannot fully rely on outside sources. If you are given this assignment to work as a part of a group, it may involve even more problems, because collaborating with other people is always more difficult than doing things on your own ââ¬â you have to rely on others to do their parts of the job. As your term paper is going to be responsible for a significant portion of your grade, you should start paying attention to this job early on. These communications term paper tips will help you organize your efforts in the right direction. Choosing a Topic: Samples Ideas from Our Writers When you write an essay in college, the topic is usually assigned to you. With term papers, things are usually different ââ¬â you choose the topic yourself, although with an input from your instructor. Ideally, you should talk things over with him and select something that will both be interesting for you and acceptable from his point of view ââ¬â after all, your instructor has already seen dozens if not hundreds of studentsââ¬â¢ terms papers and knows which kinds of topics work and which do not. As you are going to spend an entire term writing this paper, donââ¬â¢t take this choice too lightly, lest you find out that with the topic youââ¬â¢ve selected you a bit more than you can chew and it is already too late to swap it for something else. Here are some recommendations that can help you: Look for something you have interest in. Firstly, you probably already know a fair amount about this subject and can save time you would otherwise spend digging for information. Secondly, the quality of oneââ¬â¢s writing is always higher when one writes about something he is fascinated with. If you cannot think about a specific topic, try at least to delineate a general area you would like to explore (e.g., development of communication skills in children); Try using online academic oriented search engines (Refseek, PubMed, iSeek to name a few). Some of them are discipline-specific, others are general purpose, but all are useful both to search for sources of information and to have a look at the existing body of research on this or that topic. Looking through their results can help you find a topic that has a fair amount or research on it but still has bits you can dig in without repeating existing works; Once youââ¬â¢ve decided on the general area you want to cover, narrow your topic down to something more manageable. Donââ¬â¢t be overenthusiastic, though ââ¬â too narrow a topic is just as bad as a too broad one, as you may find it difficult to find viable research dealing with it; Make sure that the topic youââ¬â¢ve settled down on contains a question (direct or implied one). The thing is, a communications term paper isnââ¬â¢t a comment on something or a description of an existing situation in the research on this or that topic. It is your original work, in which you study the situation on your own and present your findings ââ¬â and findings are impossible if there werenââ¬â¢t any questions asked beforehand. Thus, ââ¬Å"Body Languageâ⬠isnââ¬â¢t a very good topic as it doesnââ¬â¢t contain a question. ââ¬Å"The Role of Body Language in Successful Communicationâ⬠, however, is a much better choice, because it implies one: Is body language important for successful communication? Talk your topic over with your instructor, and do it as early as possible to have an opportunity to research and choose another one if need be. Your instructor will be able to point out potential problems with your topic that you donââ¬â¢t see right now, and unless you are positive you can deal with them you should better listen to what he has to say ââ¬â he has much more experience dealing with this sort of thing. Eventually, the topic you select should meet two basic criteria: be narrow enough to research it more or less exhaustively in your allotted word count and be broad enough to offer a sufficient research discourse to build upon. Here are some examples of what you may be looking for: Factors Influencing Development of Communication Skills in Children from Birth to Five Years of Age; Communication Apprehension in Group Videoconferencing; The Role of Technology in Human Communication in the Mobile Age; What Influences the Development of Conflict Resolution Skills in Children; Discourse Analysis of Everyday Speech. Gathering and Researching Sources One of the most important skills for a researcher in the field of communication is critical reading and analysis of the existing body of research. There are three basic reasons why it is so important: You wonââ¬â¢t be able to produce a high-quality term paper with novel findings in your field if you donââ¬â¢t know the current research on the topic youââ¬â¢ve chosen; Critical analysis of the works by other researchers teaches you to notice strong and weak points in their argumentation ââ¬â a skill you can successfully apply when reading your own work. Knowing where and how other people make mistakes will help you avoid them in your term paper and foresee potential counter-arguments to your reasoning; You should take every bit of information with a grain of salt ââ¬â sources vary greatly in quality and veracity, and only prolonged experience in critical reading can teach you how to distinguish between trustworthy and untrustworthy ones. The quantity of sources doesnââ¬â¢t always translate into quality ââ¬â donââ¬â¢t be tempted to use a source just to add an extra item to your page. If it (or, worse yet, a number of them) turns out to be low-quality, it can negatively affect the value of your entire term paper. If youââ¬â¢ve chosen your topic carefully, there should be more than enough viable sources for it, so donââ¬â¢t be greedy. Where to Look for Sources Here are some good places to start: The reference section of your textbook. Look through the reference section for the chapter dealing with the general research area you are writing about and see if there are any suitable sources there. You can repeat this trick with any other source you find; Reading list for your course. If youââ¬â¢ve selected a topic at all relevant to the course you are taking, you are likely to find some good specimens here; Online academic databases like JSTOR and EBSCO. They contain not just the titles of the books and articles but also a host of useful information on them, like when they were published, how many times they were referred to in peer-reviewed papers and so on. This data is an excellent indication of a sourceââ¬â¢s relative quality; Librarians and your instructor ââ¬â ask those who work with sources on a regular basis. Chances are, they can offer you exactly what you need. How to Evaluate Sources As weââ¬â¢ve already stated, sources vary greatly in terms of usefulness and trustworthiness. In order to avoid relying too much on sources that can later turn out to be dubious, you should ask yourself the following questions before putting any trust into any of them: Is the author qualified? Is he a specialist in the field he is writing about? Does he have any relevant credentials to prove his qualification? Is it possible to get in touch with him to get a comment on his work? Does he have any other publications on the same or a close topic (look for them using several different search engines)? Is this person referred to by any other credible sources? Who published the source? What is the source of the publication? Does it have any sponsors or affiliations that may be interested in the one-sided presentation of the subject matter? Does the publisher take responsibility for the content it publishes? Is it possible that the author is biased in any way? Are there any signs of explicit or implicit bias? Is the authorââ¬â¢s language emotional? Does the author belong to an organization that may have a biased view on the subject? What is the sourceââ¬â¢s purpose? Is it to inform or to persuade? Are the authorââ¬â¢s methods sound and appropriate? Check the methodology page for possible inconsistencies or poorly chosen methods (taking the subject into account). Does the author provide sufficient data to prove his conclusions? Is there enough evidence to back up the authorââ¬â¢s assumptions? Writing Introduction and Conclusion These two parts are written more or less the same as in any other academic writing assignment. The introduction states the problem, does its best to grasp the readerââ¬â¢s attention and smoothly leads on to the thesis statement. The conclusion sums up the paper, states whether the initial hypothesis was proved or disproved and clarifies whether any subsequent research in this area is in order. Thesis Statement Thesis statement summarizes, in short, the main point of your communication term paper. The main things to consider here are as follows: It should be short ââ¬â usually one sentence, no more than two; It should contain a single most important point of your paper. What do you try to prove? What is the main finding of your term paper? It should be definite ââ¬â no ambiguities, no vagueness. Body Paragraphs Communication term papers have a standard of writing every student has to follow. All paragraphs should be written in more or less the same fashion: first, you introduce the new point, then provide evidence to back it up (quotations, statistics, interviews, etc.), then deal with potential counter-arguments and finalize it by summarizing the point and connecting it back to the thesis statement; Be laconic. The fewer words you use, the better. If anything can be said shorter than it is, rewrite it this way. However, the key is to remain understandable ââ¬â donââ¬â¢t strive for brevity for the sake of brevity, just trim the fat; Donââ¬â¢t use emotional language. What you write is a work of science, not fiction, there is no place for emotions, bias or anything else of the kind; Use quotations sparingly, especially direct ones. The words of other researchers, however well-reputed, arenââ¬â¢t considered sufficient evidence in science. You should focus on facts, statistical data and repeatable experiments and not on what other people say about them; Donââ¬â¢t use the first person in your writing. Phrases like ââ¬ËI thinkââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËI believeââ¬â¢ are too personal and have no place in any research writing, writing on communication included. Revision You may be quite tired of your paper by the time you finish it, but the first draft never means the end of work ââ¬â at least if you want to achieve good results. In order to produce a truly memorable communication term paper, you have to put it through revision. If possible, give yourself at least one full day to simply have a little rest from this work. You will be able to see your paper with fresh eyes and find more mistakes this way; Ask a friend or a peer for an opinion about your paper. Make sure to choose somebody who you can trust. Ask them if parts are connected logically, if all chapters of the paperwork as intended, if they have any more constructive criticism to impart; Read your term paper aloud. Quite often this allows you to notice flaws that remain hidden when presented in text form; Donââ¬â¢t be afraid of cutting whole paragraphs. More isnââ¬â¢t always better ââ¬â if your paper works better without something, remove it, even if by itself it is a fascinating piece of information; Consult with your style guide and check if your paper complies with it. We hope that this communications term paper guide will help you prepare and write your next term paper ââ¬â good luck!

Islam in the Modern World Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Islam in the Modern World - Essay Example Traditional law remained in force. The Medina period established a new order and codified different religious traditions and separate laws. The Quran was revealed to Muhammad over a period of twenty-three years in order to meet the needs of the Islamic society in Mecca and then in Medina. It gradually provided an Islamic ideology for the community and, in the process, modified or supplemented existing customs not meeting Islamic standards. Quranic values were concretized and interpreted by the second material source of law, the Sunnah of the Prophet (Murata and Chittick 12). 2. Quran is the main religious text in Islam. Since the Quran is not a law book, i.e., not a collection of prescriptions providing a legal system, and because the Prophet was no longer alive to resolve problems, the early Caliphs, and later, during the Umayyad period (661-750), the judges (qadis) shouldered the responsibility of rendering legal decisions. The Muslim concern not simply to know the divine will but also to execute it, inspired the early Muslim community's expansion and conquest of Arabia, the Eastern Byzantine Empire in Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, the Persian (Sasanid) Empire in Iran and Iraq, and Egypt. However, the realization of the Muslims' religious vision to transform the world was not a simple task. The Quran is the revelation of God, the central fact of the Islamic religious experience. As the very word of God, for Muslims the Quran is the presence of the numinous in history (space and time). Thus, the primary material source of the revealed law is quite natural ly the Holy Quran, the sourcebook of Islamic values. While the Quran does contain prescriptions about matters that would rank as legal in the strict, narrow sense of the term, these injunctions, in fact, comprise but eighty verses (Murata and Chittick 27). 3. The social-historical interpretation of Quran treats the book as the main source of ancient laws and principles, social-economic relations and political power. As Muslims seek to root their personal and national identity in an Islamic past, the importance of reinterpretation and community consensus is evident. Providing an Islamic methodology for reform is an essential part of this process. Lack of such a methodology undermines any sense of the Islamic character of reforms and consequently the acceptance of such reforms by the vast majority of Muslims. While passage of reforms may be effected through an autocratic leader of a legislature comprised of a small elite, their ultimate acceptance by the vast majority of the Islamic community will not be assured. Literal interpretation of Quran is aimed to investigate literary and oral traditions of this period, analyze cultural and national uniqueness of the text. Literary interpretations take into account the use of language and cultur al peculiarities of the text. Despite the changes thus far, the conflict between the forces of conservatism and modernism has continued. Resistance to change often resulted in indirect, ad hoc legal methods of reform as well as the shelving of draft legislation. The problem which has emerged is still very much that of taqlid (following tradition) versus ijtihad (reinterpretation), the infallibility of classical law

Parents Handbook Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Parents Handbook - Assignment Example These may include examples such as the link between school experiences and family experiences (Shaffer, 2009). The exosystemââ¬â¢s main concern is the link between the social settings that the individual does not have active roles in and the personââ¬â¢s immediate context. For instance, a husbandââ¬â¢s experiences at work may influence the wifeââ¬â¢s experiences at home. The macrosystem is used to describe the culture within which individuals live. Cultural contexts in this category may be used to mean ethnicity and poverty. The chronosystem, on the other hand, is used to refer to the pattern of environmental events as well as the transitions over an individualââ¬â¢s life and the sociohistorical events (Shaffer, 2009). This theory is very important for the parents and the overall population. This is because the parents get an idea concerning how their childrenââ¬â¢s development is affected by the environment implying that they can choose the most appropriate environ ment for the children to grow up in for the best outcomes. In addition, the adults may understand the contexts that affect their own experiences, which could help in improving their livelihood. Among the four most common parenting styles that include authoritative, authoritarian, neglectful, and permissive styles, the most effective method and the one that I believe is the most beneficial is the authoritative style. This is because this style ensures that the child is disciplined and encourages communication where the child can express their feelings on certain issues. This style is mostly characterized by communication where the authoritative parents listen to their children, allow them to express their opinions, and encourage them to discuss any options (Hughes, 2013). These parents also place limits and ensure that their children are aware of the consequences of doing certain things. This ensures the administration of consistent and fair discipline, as the children are aware of the expectations

Report Generator for Bayanan Barangay Hall Essay Example for Free
Report Generator for Bayanan Barangay Hall Essay Computer technology has been widely used in different fields, nowadays; computer is the main system that is being used from large and wide scale manufacturing up to small scale industries. The defining feature of modern computers which distinguishes them from all other machines is that they can be programmed. In recent times, the world has witnessed a rapid increase in technological innovations. This era ushered in the advent of the electronic computer system among other modern technologies. At present the computer technology has permeated nearly all aspects of human organizational roles and education. Computer encompasses almost all facets of human endeavors. So much has been written on it and its relatedness to all areas of human disciplines, which include computer/information technology, engineering, agriculture etc. However, in the field of case records their role is much less well defined, for here the organization of data as a preliminary to computer input is the real stumbling-block. Barangay Bayanan is one of the barangay in the City of Muntinlupa. It is bounded between Barangay Alabang and Barangay Putatan. With residents for about 35,865 the hall is strategically located along Bayanan Bay walk, Muntinlupa City. Transactions are currently done manually wherein, information about the citizens are being process by just simply writing the citizenââ¬â¢s name, age, location and other personal information. Producing report such as Barangay Clearance, various certificates etc. is done manually by ink and paper, which is very slow and consuming much efforts and time. Furthermore, the duplication of produced report to each citizen is often result to data management problem such as slow processing, inaccuracy of report and many others. These problems are typical of a manual or traditional system. This research aims to consider a computerized report generator is needed to avoid redundancy and to quicken the generation of reports from the replacement of the current manu al system. The general objective of the study is to design and develop a report generator that would serve as proposal to help Bayanan Barangay Hall to their operation and provides an easier, faster, more organized, secured, and accurate system.à The specific objective of the study is to identify the problems encountered by Bayanan Barangay Hall and also create a report generator that will improve the scope such as citizens, staff and administration. In general scope, the focus of this study is directed towards the design and development of a report generator for Bayanan Barangay Hall with its administration, staff, and citizens are selected. The report generator has a secure log-in for administration and staff. For its limitation, the study is limited only to citizen-data entry person transactions. The inventory report, payroll of the staff and the payment for the service rendered is not provided by the report generator because it will only focus in generating reports after the registration of the citizenââ¬â¢s information is being done by the authorized personnel. à This part describes the relationship between the dependent variables, independent variables and intervening variables of existing system and proposed report generator.

Mecca Cola :: essays research papers
MECCA-COLA: A MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE There is no denying that Mecca-Cola is a political product. Commercially, itââ¬â¢s capitalizing on the growing anti-American sentiment. The interesting part, which probably no one has ever done before, is the fact that the founder is making a political statement as well as embracing others with the same attitude through a consumer product. At some level it looks ironic that an anti-American movement takes form in the very byproduct of American culture; however, this is also saying that not all about America is bad. Itââ¬â¢s not the culture that is being fought, but rather the politics. And Mecca-Cola fights by trying to provide conscience to its consumers, to provide meaning in consumerism (ââ¬Å"buvez engagà ©Ã¢â¬ ). Mecca-Cola was born as a reaction to the anti-American sentiments, and it primarily appeals to consumers who support American brands boycott campaign. Entry consumers are primarily Muslims, with the product first being distributed in ââ¬Å"small ethnic shops in Muslim areasâ⬠. While Mecca-Cola may continue to appeal to Muslim consumers, its policy to give profits for charity may appeal to other ââ¬Å"engaged consumersâ⬠. By positioning itself as the non-American alternative of a cola, Mecca-Cola directly challenged Coca-Cola and Pepsi as the ââ¬Å"American productsâ⬠. However, as in Mathlouthi idealism, Mecca-Cola will keep the focus on providing an alternative cola drinks, not directly challenge those big players as competitors. Now that Mecca-Cola has successfully initiated a new segment of ââ¬Å"alternative colaâ⬠, its real competitors are the other alternative cola that position themselves as a product for Muslims while also offering corporate social responsibility like Mecca Cola. Among the major competitors are ZamZam Cola, Qibla-Cola, Muslim Up and Arab Cola. The launch of Mecca-Cola was a success, perhaps because it is providing a fresh alternative to common consumerism, while using political and social charity leveraging advantages. Nevertheless, Mecca-Cola is vulnerable to competition (specific target base, low entry barrier for me-too products), and its positioning appeal may wear out if world politics change. Mecca-Cola could be a sustainable business if it emphasizes on universal values that appeal to a broader, sustainable consumer base, rather than just another Anti-America alternative product. à à à à à Mathlouthi and Mecca Cola Taufik Mathlouthi is a Muslim, Tunisian-born French entrepreneur. His exceptional entrepreneurship mindset, along with his involvement in social issues and a sense of pride for his origins, forms the right chemistry that led to the birth of Mecca Cola. Mathlouthi is by nature an involved and exploring individual.
